Attire plays a key role in creating the perfect portrait as does the environment where the session is taken. Based on where we are creating your family portrait will aid us in determining the best clothing for everyone to wear. There should be color harmony and unity with the clothing selected as well as the location.
At Michael Carr Photography, we are seasoned professional portrait artists and able to address special requests.
As we know, Houston weather is highly unpredictable and humid. Studio portraiture eliminates the concerns for weather conditions. Rain or shine, cold or heat, you will always look great in a climate controlled environment with calculated lighting and custom backgrounds. Most family portrait sessions last about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the number of people and the location. We’ll guide you throughout the session so it feels relaxed and natural.
What should we wear for our family portraits?
It depends on the look you’re going for. For formal family portraits, we suggest timeless outfits like tailored dresses, button-down shirts, or suits in neutral or classic tones. For a casual or lifestyle session, coordinated outfits in soft colors or textures (like knits or linen) photograph beautifully. Avoid busy patterns, logos, or neon colors. When will we see our family photos?
You’ll return to the studio for a personalized ordering appointment about one to two weeks after your session. This is where you’ll view your images and choose your artwork.

We offer on location family portraits, at home portrait sessions in the Houston area, as well as in studio portraits. Lisa Carr also photographs newborn and baby portraits.
Michael Carr Photography is a full service portrait studio. What this means to you is that we complete your portrait from the beginning to the finished phases: conception, capture and full artist embellishments to framing for your final wall portraits.
Michael and Lisa are one of the few photographers in Houston, TX that hold the title of distinction of Certified Professional Photographer, (CPP) with the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) organization. Only 8% of full time working photographers in the US has earned this title. Michael and Lisa have photographed many Houstonians during their career path in life.
