What IS a Personal Branding photography session? Personal brand photo sessions start with a consultation to get to know you and your branding goals. Sessions usually include headshots, waist up and or ¾ length standing or seated. Because the session is so customized to suit your brand, the types of images we create will vary from one business to another. We always suggest bringing several change of clothes to offer variety to your session and look.

Who is this session for? Short answer – anyone who is representing their brand. Small business owners, solo and entrepreneurs, creative professionals, public figures, coaches, speakers, real estate agents, C Suite executives, and more!

Who is this session for? Short answer – anyone who is representing their brand. Small business owners, solo and entrepreneurs, creative professionals, public figures, coaches, speakers, real estate agents, C Suite executives, and more!

Why do I need a personal branding session? Strong images give your brand a personality. We live in a visual world, and if people can’t see you they don’t know if they can trust you. With your web presence you have a small window of time to build that key first impression.

What can I expect during the session? You can expect a personalized, customized, and not rushed session experience. You will have time to change wardrobe if you like. Ladies: hair and makeup is always recommended and helps you look and feel your best in front of the camera. We partner with a nearby salon that offers this service in their salon or at our studio. It is our goal to make you feel comfortable throughout the session so we can capture your true personality, and keep it fun too.

What can I do with my images?

  1. Social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linked In. Social media posts that include an image receive 120-180% more visibility and engagement.
  2. Your website: Blogs, home page, about me, landing pages, contact me, for example.
  3. Marketing collateral: Business cards, brochures, mailers, or other printed marketing materials.⠀
  4. Press releases, speaking engagements, email signatures, and anywhere you have the opportunity to show people what it would be like to work with you.⠀

Helpful Tips for Your Outdoor Family Portrait

Helpful Tips for Your Outdoor Family Portrait

Houston Top 5 Tips for Your
Outdoor Family Portrait

An outdoor family portrait is a great way to capture the story of your family’s life. From newly engaged couples in love to parents holding their newborns with pride and every milestone in between, family portraiture is the art that tells your story.

This family is so precious to us since we first met them when we photographed their wedding. We have seen their family grow over the past several years, and were so excited to photograph their family portrait outdoors. Here are a few of our tips to help plan for your outdoor family portrait.

  1. Scheduling.
The timing of your family portrait session is very important. We recommend early morning, around 9am, or late afternoon, around 5pm. As summer approaches, 6:30pm may become an option. We use available lights along with light modifiers and off camera lighting equipment to insure everyone is lit properly and no one has dark eyes in the final portrait. We will work with you to determine the best time of day for your portrait based on the location as well.If young children are to be included in your portrait, you should pick the time that is not right during their nap time but when they are at their best. For outdoor portraits we always recommend scheduling two dates in the event of rain or bad weather. We do have a studio available which can also serve as an option for your family portrait should weather become an issue.
  1. Clothing Selection.
Everyone’s clothing does not need to match in colors, but there should be harmony with everyone’s attire in the portrait. For example, if you want a casual spring or summer portrait then the children could wear shorts with light colored tops or dresses, and the adults could wear casual pants and khakis with light colored shirts and blouses. Colors should be complimentary and in the same tonal range. It is always recommended to stick to solid colors or a very small pattern. Long sleeve shirts work best as well. We will discuss your portrait vision and clothing options during your pre-portrait consultation.
  1. Hair and Makeup.
For men and children in the portrait, we recommend a hair trim 2 weeks before your portrait. For ladies, a trim or haircut and color if needed 2 weeks before your portrait as well. This is not the time to try a new hair color or a new haircut or hair style! We partner with a nearby salon that takes care of our client’s hair and makeup for their portrait. The salon will help you look your best and make sure you are picture perfect. Remember to have a manicure and pedicure the day before your portrait too! On the day of your portrait bring a brush, powder, and makeup for touchups during your session.
  2. Get Plenty of Rest.
Rest is so important before your portrait. If you are tired it will show in your images. Go to bed early and stay hydrated before your portrait.
  3. Portrait Location and Scale.
During your consultation, we will discuss where you plan on hanging your selected portrait in your home. This is important for us photography wise so we capture your images with the end in mind. For example, if the space warrants a vertical portrait, we want to make sure we have plenty of vertical images for you to select from. During your portrait order appointment, we will project your images in our studio and can also show you the proper size portrait based on the space in your home where the portrait will reside.

 Children’s Portraits in Houston

Houston family portrait photographer, Michael Carr, captured these Portraits of Andrea recently. We have photographed Andrea for her family for many years. We have enjoyed seeing her grow up; and yes we remember when she was very tiny! Her Mom called us and wanted a different Portrait to celebrate Andrea turning 10 years old. We decided an outdoor session in the fall would be perfect. We had the perfect location in mind for this session too. We helped her Mom pre-plan clothing for Andrea’s portraits, and ultimately let Andrea decide what she wanted to wear.

Throughout the portrait session we talked with Andrea and made her feel relaxed and comfortable. We wanted her personality and character to show through the entire session. Here are just a few of our favorite portraits from her milestone session.

Houston newborn photographer, Lisa Carr of Belly to Baby Studios, recently photographed this newborn girl in the studio. We love incorporating siblings and family with our newborn photography.

Before this client arrived with her family, we pre-selected the props and accessories for her newborn’s portraits. We had a phone consultation before the session to discuss the scope the session and the best clothing options for everyone that would be included in the portrait.

We believe in creating timeless artwork for families to enjoy for years to come. In a day and age when digital imagery is all around us, it is nice to have artwork hanging in a home. Printed artwork will last well beyond the limited life of technology. Printed artwork is not dependent upon IOS updates, compatibility issues, and does not need to be backed up in the cloud. You can also find your printed artwork and look at it quicker than the time it takes to unlock your phone.

Newborn and Family Portraits

Lisa Carr, with Belly to Baby Studios, is a Houston Newborn and Family Photographer. She recently photographed this baby boy when he was 1 month old. It is recommended that you photograph newborns between 7-12 days old. If you are a new Mom, or have never had your newborn photographed professionally you may be wondering why. This time frame is recommended so that your baby will sleep a bit more and so that they are still flexible since their bones and muscles have not fully developed. Babies that are older than this will typically stretch out more and reach out more with their hands during their sessions, and also may not want to be scrunched up or swaddled.

We always receive calls after a baby has been born, and Moms are panicked because they did not pre-schedule their baby’s newborn session weeks in advance. We always leave room in our calendars for these last minute sessions. We also believe that it is very important to have your newborn’s photographed even if they are older than the recommended time frame of 7-12 days old. We know older babies will need to be handled differently and accommodations made for extra feedings during the session. Also we love to capture awake babies during the newborn session, and we allow extra time for these poses as well:

Social Media Headshots

Social media headshots plays a major role in today’s business world. Breaking news is tweeted or hash tagged in seconds with new information being released instantaneously. Corporation V cards are used daily in the business world around the globe as a daily form of business introductions. Corporate directories and annual reports are filled with business portraits showcasing corporate leadership.

A polished professional portrait adds value to your presentations, proposals, and online business biographies. Let’s face it, digital media is here to stay and has proven to be effective amongst business leaders. For business professionals, a prime example is LinkedIn. According to LinkedIn data, a social media bio is 11x’s more likely to be clicked on and viewed when there is an image included on an individual’s profile page. There are two important factors to keep in mind for your LinkedIn social media headshot profile image.

Social Media Headshots

social media headshots

1) Visual communication in business is powerful and makes a positive impact when dealing with potential clients or professional counterparts. If you do not have a photo for your professional profile page, this can have a big impact on the overall appearance of your profile giving the impression your profile is incomplete.

2) Your social media headshots needs to be polished and professional. Casual photos that some may use on Facebook are not a good choice on LinkedIn. Keep your headshot professional. Remember, first impressions count, and people do business with people they trust so be sure that your picture conveys the impression of the warm, professional, friendly person that you really are.

Women’s Contemporary Portrait Photography
Women’s Contemporary Portraiture Collection vs Traditional Headshots

What makes our Women’s Contemporary Portraiture Collection different from a traditional headshot?

The Women’s Contemporary Portraiture Collection by Michael Carr Photography features editorial and lifestyle attributes to enhance your visual persona, connect with your audience, and translate your message. Most contemporary sessions include a mixture of dramatically lit images using solid backgrounds which helps to bring focus to the subject. Some sessions include elements of simple furnishings to create a more casual and relaxed portrait image. In contrast a traditional headshot may focus on matching your head and shoulder business portrait to other images on a company website or directory page. A traditional company business portrait may require a generic lighting style that is consistent for most type of subjects versus a personalized lighting style that compliments your own features.

Women’s Contemporary Portrait sessions by Michael Carr Photography are designed to portray an individual’s confidence in front of the camera and are tailored specifically for you. Here are four tips to make your Contemporary Portrait session an incredible experience.

contemporary portrait photography

  1. Start with a Consultation

Each Women’s Contemporary Portrait Photography session begins with a consultation to review your session goals, where the images will be used for marketing collateral, and what format and sizes are required for final images.

  1. Plan for Your Professional Hair and Makeup

Female professionals should have their hair and make-up done by a professional hairstylist and makeup artist the day of your session. A professional makeup artist will highlight your best features and choose the right colors to compliment your outfit for your photography session. We are happy to provide recommendations upon request. Also, consider your hands as they may show in your portrait. Some clients opt to get a manicure before their session and select a clear polish or neutral color for their nails.

contemporary portrait photography

  1. Select Attire that Complement Your Best Features

Women’s contemporary portraits have the emphasis on you. Your clothing should reflect your professional style and the business image you want to deliver as part of your personal brand. Blouses, skirts, dresses, and jackets should be in a solid color or have a light pattern. Feel free to bring up to 3-5 clean, well-pressed outfits to your session. If you normally wear glasses, wear them in your portrait. Lastly, when it comes to jewelry, less is best. We recommend wearing pearls or diamonds for a classic and polished look.

  1. Design Your Women’s Contemporary Portrait Collection

At the end of your portrait session, you will review your images and make your selection. Women’s Contemporary Portrait sessions with multiple clothing changes are time efficient and typically completed within 45 minutes. A digital artist will edit your final images in digital enhancement software to soften puffiness under the eyes, minimize smile lines and refine the portrait.

From the final images, clients select a collection of custom framed prints to display in their office, home, and to give as gifts to loved ones.

Houston Senior Portrait Photographer

Houston Senior Portrait Photographer, Michael Carr, CPP, is a modern, contemporary and classic High School Senior Portrait Photographer.  Michael offers both in studio and location high school senior portrait sessions.

Our High School Senior sessions are created using a blend of commercial photography and fashion techniques.  This type of photography is commonly used in magazines and advertising work. Commercial lighting gives a different lighting effect and is commonly used to create that “WOW” image.

In addition to the flare described above, we also include a variety of classic poses and lighting options throughout our senior portrait sessions. During the session we are typically photographing not only for the high school senior but also the parents and grandparents.

Houston Senior Portrait Photographer

Here are a few tips for our senior portrait sessions:

  1. What? Our portrait process begins with a phone consultation. During this phone consult we will discuss the individual being photographed and the logistics involved behind the session. In addition, we will discuss clothing attire and overall photography goals of the session. What type of images are you looking for: classic, timeless, indoor, outdoor, contemporary, architecture? These are just a few examples of what we would be discussing during the planning phase. From studio to destinations, we have the experience to photographed most of our client’s requests.  We recommend that you review our portfolio or call the studio to discuss your vision and thoughts.
  1. When and Where? Portrait sessions may be scheduled during the week, and we do offer limited Saturday sessions as well. A note about location photography assignments: some locations with Houston do require a photographer’s permit to photograph on their grounds.  If a photographer’s permit is required, please note this fee is an additional charge. Some locations will photograph better in the morning versus the afternoon. Also, if you are wanting to have hair and makeup services added to your session, we need to consider that when scheduling your session time as well.
  1. The Objective. As a Houston Senior Portrait Photographer, our style is commonly defined as unique, clean and refreshing. Our senior sessions are not your traditional senior cap and gown photography sessions. For in studio senior portrait sessions, each high school senior’s session is created using custom studio sets and the theme is based on the senior’s personality and the artist’s creative vision. Our studio sets are constantly changing. The goal is to capture something different and special for every graduating high school senior. Many of our high school senior pictures are shared as formal senior portraits in the home, college applications, sorority portraits and web sized images for Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms.Houston Senior Portrait Photographer

Our studio is centrally located in the Tanglewood area in a commercial office building. We service the Greater Houston area and it’s surrounding areas, 77401, 77057, 77056, 77005, 77019.  You can view more of our young adult sessions, and family portrait sessions on our site.  Call 713-461-2862 to schedule your session.
